Former Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, popularly known as Alla Nani, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, at the age of 57 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest at his residence in Visakhapatnam. A prominent leader from the Eluru constituency in West Godavari district, he was a multi-term Member of the Legislative Assembly and one of the senior-most political figures in the state.
Early Political Career
Alla Nani began his political journey with the Indian National Congress and first won the Eluru assembly seat in 2004, representing the constituency until 2013. He went on to join the YSR Congress Party in 2013, later serving as a Member of the Legislative Council between 2017 and 2019.
Rise to Deputy Chief Minister
Nani returned to the Eluru assembly seat in the 2019 elections on a YSRCP ticket. He was subsequently appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Minister for Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education in the Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led cabinet, a post he held from 2019 to 2022. Chandrababu Naidu said the news of Alla Nani's passing at a young age had 'deeply shocked' him and offered condolences to his family. YSRCP chief Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and former YSRCP leader V. Vijayasai Reddy also condoled his death, with Vijayasai Reddy calling him a leader whose 'dedicated public service and contribution to the state will always be remembered.'
