Avengers: Doomsday is easily one of the most anticipated films of 2026. The movie marks the return of the Russo Brothers - Anthony and Joe Russo - to the Marvel fold after helming four of the franchise’s biggest hits: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. But the Russos aren’t the only ones making a comeback - Robert Downey Jr is returning too, though not as Tony Stark/Iron Man. In a bold twist, he plays the film’s main antagonist, Doctor Doom. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Release Date Delayed to December 18, 2026; From ‘Dune: Messiah’ to ‘Shrek 5’ – Check Out Other Major Hollywood Movie Releases in the Same Month!
The film features nearly every major character still active in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and filming is currently underway in a hush-hush manner at Pinewood Studios in England.
While leaked pictures from the set have already surfaced and we also have picture of the cast hanging out between takes, for the first time, an image has emerged directly from a scene being filmed. The photo, taken during an actual shoot, shows three prominent cast members in what appears to be a blue screen-heavy control room, possibly representing a command centre or the interior of a spaceship.

What makes this leak especially intriguing is that the three characters featured have never previously shared the screen together in the MCU, and now, they seem to be working together.
Danny Ramirez reprises his role as Joaquín Torres, the new Falcon, having earlier appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and then in Captain America: Brave New World. Wyatt Russell returns as John Walker, aka US Agent, who debuted in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and appears again as one of the main leads in Thunderbolts. Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) is all set to make his MCU debut as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, scheduled to release on July 25, 2025. In the leaked pic, he is seen wearing a mo-cap suit so he would be seen as The Thing in the scene, and not in his human form.
What Does Their Appearance Together Mean?
The second post-credits scene of Thunderbolts confirms that Sam Wilson is opposed to the Thunderbolts acting as the new Avengers, as he and Torres are already forming their own Avengers team.
That same scene also shows the Fantastic Four’s spaceship entering Earth’s atmosphere, with the Thunderbolts watching the event from Avengers HQ. Based on this, it seems whatever threat Doctor Doom poses in Avengers: Doomsday has forced Wilson’s Avengers and the Thunderbolts to put aside their differences - with the Fantastic Four joining the effort too. ‘Thunderbolts’ Ending Explained: How Post-Credits Scene of Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan’s Marvel Movie Sets Up MCU’s Future – Fan Theory Confirmed?
And it also likely means someone at Marvel is in serious trouble for letting this major spoiler leak.
