He grew up in Rocky Mount, Virginia, and embarked on a career that saw him excel in both musical theatre and on-screen performances. Grisetti honed his craft at the North Carolina School of the Arts, graduating in 2000 with a high school diploma in drama, and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from The Boston Conservatory in 2004. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also became the first graduate with an MFA in Performance Pedagogy from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

The heartbreaking news of Grisetti's death was shared publicly on Sunday, July 12, 2026, by his close friend and Something Rotten! co-star, Rob McClure. In an emotional Instagram post, McClure wrote, "It is with a shattered heart that I share that the brilliant Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday. I'm not ready to even attempt to understand." McClure, who also served as Grisetti's best man, highlighted their years of performing together and described the loss as "cataclysmic." A Prolific Career Across Stage and Screen
Grisetti was a versatile performer, leaving a significant mark in both theatre and television. His most recent prominent screen role was as Ralph Emerson, a comedy writer, in the fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which premiered on Amazon Prime in 2023. He appeared in eight episodes of the season, starring alongside Rachel Brosnahan.
On Broadway, Grisetti was highly regarded for his musical theatre work. He originated the role of Marty Kaufman in It Shoulda Been You in 2015, a performance that earned him the prestigious Clarence Derwent Award for Most Promising Male Actor, as well as Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations. In 2016, he succeeded John Cariani in the role of Nigel Bottom in Something Rotten! on Broadway, later reprising it for the show's first national tour, where he toured with Rob McClure for over a year.
