The 91st Academy Awards has seen its fair share of praises and criticism. The jury tried to walk that thin plank between commercial and artsy films in choosing the winners, and did their best to please everyone. Green Book took away the Best Picture award, as well as Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor. It was Bohemian Rhapsody, another film that got mixed reviews, which got the maximum awards (4) like Best Actor, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing. Oscars 2019 Complete Winners List: Green Book, Rami Malek, Olivia Colman, Black Panther Win Top Honours at 91st Academy Awards.

Oscars 2019 also reminded us that the brilliant Glenn Close is becoming like Leonardo DiCaprio before his Revenant win. The actress had got her seventh nomination for her performance in The Wife, but lost the Best Actress award to Olivia Colman (The Favourite). Black Panther has become the first superhero movie to get three Oscar wins. It has also become the first Marvel movie to earn an Academy award. By winning the Best Actor award, Rami Malek, who plays Freddie Mercury in the film, has become the first Arabian-American actor to do so. He has reminded the viewers of his roots, by reiterating that his parents were "immigrants from Egypt".

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse became the first Marvel 'superhero' movie to win Best Animated Feature, though it was The Incredibles who won the award in 2005 that made it the first superhero movie to do so. One of the directors, Peter Ramsey, became the first black director to win an award in the same category.

Roma

If it had earned (and it was deserving so) the Best Picture award, Roma would have been the first foreign language film to do so. Instead, it has to be content with being the first Mexican film to win the Best Foreign Language film.
