What Happened At Lucknow Fair?

Fourteen-year-old Ankita Singh, a resident of Vibhuti Khand, had visited the fair with her brother Surya Singh, sister Nancy and friends at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday.

According to Surya, they were riding the amusement ride when a bucket suddenly broke off from above and fell directly onto Ankita's face.

The impact caused serious injuries and bleeding, triggering panic among people on the ride and others at the fair.

Ride Allegedly Continued After Accident

Injured Nancy and Surya said that immediately after the accident, they pleaded with the ride operator to stop the machine. However, they alleged that the operator failed to stop the ride immediately.

As the ride continued to move, the broken part struck Nancy, Surya and another girl sitting nearby, identified as 16-year-old Nisha Kumari, among others. The ride was eventually stopped after people began shouting and creating a commotion. By then, five people had been injured. Locals also alleged that the ride was not stopped immediately after the accident.

Five Injured, Two Remain Hospitalised

According to Sushma Hospital CEO Arpit Singhal, the accident took place directly opposite the hospital, following which the emergency team was immediately alerted. All five injured people were brought to the hospital.

Three of them were discharged after receiving first aid, while Ankita and Nisha remain under treatment. Doctors said one of the injured girls suffered multiple fractures. Further treatment will be decided after the remaining medical reports are received.

Families Allege Fair Organiser Escaped

The victims' families alleged that the fair organiser was caught at the spot after the accident but managed to escape. The incident also led to panic and chaos at the fair, with videos from the scene showing people scrambling for safety after the ride crashed. Police have not yet disclosed further details about the ride's safety arrangements or whether any action has been taken against the operator or organiser.

Police said the matter is currently under investigation. The authorities are expected to examine how the amusement ride was being operated and whether required safety measures and permissions were in place. The incident has also raised questions over the safety of amusement rides at temporary fairs and whether adequate checks were carried out before the ride was allowed to operate.
