Oscar-winning actor Russel Crowe hosted a unique auction wherein he gave away his special momentoes from his marriage to Danielle Spencer which ended in 2012. The actor held 'The Art of Divorce' auction which had a mix of his movies- props, costumes and also some pieces of jewellery. Some of the items on the eclectic auction were leather jockstrap and midnight blue satin boxers, along with art, watches, diamond rings and a Mercedes Benz. The auction took place in Sydney on April 7, his birthday which also happens to be his marriage anniversary! and items sold for some really huge price! A replica Roman chariot for $65,000, and a painting by Charles Blackman for $360,000 during the auction.

There were about hundreds of items each with some description about how they were important to the actor, be in his professional or personal life.  So there were Rolex watches, landscape art, ice skates, cricket jerseys, motorcycles. There were 19 varieties of jewellery too. The actor had organised this 'divorce-themed' event as a way to move on and clear out 'stuff.' Crowe was surprising the audiences in between. He took to the stage and said, "G'day folks, how you doing? You having a bit of fun? It's been a lot of fun putting it (the auction) together for you.

Among the various item, Crowe's favourite piece was an 1890 violin made by Leandro Bisiach Snr. The violin was sold for $135,000. The most expensive and remarkable bids came in for his movie memorabilia. A leather jockstrap worn by Crowe in Cinderella Man was won for $7000 by a telephone bidder. The uniform Crowe wore as Captain Jack Aubrey in Master and Commander sold for almost $100,000 more than its estimated price. An aluminium sword used as a prop went for $70,000. Among the bizarre items in this collection was a dinosaur skull from the late Cretaceous period which sold for a staggering $65,000. His costume worn for the character Javert during the performance of the song Stars in the 2012 film Les Miserables — $16,000. Crowe started his personal collection several years ago listed during his failed marriage. The auction saw a mix of enthusiastic clients that were up for the sale and some of it actually sold for quite an expensive price.
