South Indian actress Anupama Parameswaran, known for her candid nature, has shared a deeply personal and harrowing experience, revealing she endured two years of "narcissistic abuse" in a previous relationship. The 'Premam' star's revelations came during a heartfelt interview with Dhanya Varma, where she spoke publicly for the first time about the suffering that led to a cryptic Instagram post last month. Anupama Parameswaran-Dhruv Vikram Breakup Rumours: Did ‘Bison’ Actress Just Confirm the Split in Cryptic Post?.

Anupama Parameswaran Opens Up About Her Breakup

Anupama Parameswaran's decision to speak out follows an Instagram post she shared in July 2026, which hinted at a breakup with the message, "You have to let go of the dead ends to finally find your peace." She clarified that the post was not impulsive but came after a significant period of healing. "There are two years of pain, physical and emotional destruction, behind that one post," she stated, emphasising that she waited until she was ready to voice her experience.

Throughout the candid discussion, Anupama did not explicitly name her former partner. However, speculation has long linked her with actor Dhruv Vikram, especially during the filming of their movie 'Bison Kaalamaadan'.

The Ordeal of Narcissistic Abuse

The actress described the abuse as a gradual process, often unnoticed by the victim initially. She explained that narcissistic abuse is not always overt but happens "very quietly," with the abuser seeking control, attention, and validation due to their own insecurities. "People misunderstand narcissists as people who love themselves a lot. But they actually hate themselves. They are insecure. They do not recognise their own worth," she revealed.

The toll on Anupama was profound. She spoke of "physical and emotional suffering and breakdown" and feeling herself "shrinking" rather than growing in the relationship. Her friends, family, and staff reportedly noticed her becoming withdrawn and losing weight.

The ‘Anniyan’ Analogy

In a striking comparison, Anupama likened her ex-partner's behaviour to the dissociative identity disorder portrayed by Vikram's character in the Tamil psychological thriller 'Anniyan'. She detailed a relentless cycle of extreme affection followed by immense cruelty. "It was like living with an 'Anniyan'. On some days, he would be 'Remo'. You would feel incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful person in your life. The next day, he would be 'Anniyan'. He would behave in the most cruel manner. The following day, he would apologise, beg, promise that he would never repeat it and cry like a child. This would keep repeating," she recounted.

Rapid Progression and Career Impact

Anupama also shared how swiftly the relationship escalated. After just a few dates, her partner introduced her to his family, and within three months, discussions about engagement began. She firmly stated that she was the one who rejected the engagement proposal, seeking more time, and dismissed "gold digger" allegations, asserting that if she hadn't, the marriage would have inevitably ended in divorce.

The relationship also negatively impacted her career. Anupama revealed that she turned down many films and was even prevented from promoting Dragon, one of her career's most successful movies, due to the controlling nature of her partner. ‘Bison Kalamaadan’ Box Office: Dhruv Vikram’s Film Roars to Glory, Sports Drama Earns INR 85 Crore Worldwide in 10 Days – Details Inside.

Anupama on Finding Her Voice and Message to Others

The actress was profoundly affected after watching an Instagram Reel by Madonna Sebastian discussing narcissistic abuse, which spurred her to speak out. "My reaction to that was so physical that I started shivering," she recalled. Her primary motivation for sharing her story is to reach others who might be experiencing similar abuse but haven't yet identified it, calling this group the "most dangerous category."
