During a conversation with ANI, Ameer expressed scepticism regarding the procedural delays, stating that the "Jana Nayagan" situation is unprecedented in Indian cinema history. He criticised the lack of transparency from the CBFC, stating, "I don’t recall any instance where the Censor Board said that a film must be reviewed and decided upon by the Election Commission. This seems to be happening for the first time. If that is the case, we cannot deny, and must accept, that there is a significant political angle being concealed in it."

The director noted that while films are typically flagged for specific content like "excessive violence" or "scenes that go against social harmony," the current ambiguity points toward external pressures. He drew a comparison to the 2013 film Vishwaroopam, which faced backlash over its portrayal of minority communities, but noted that even then, the reasons for the controversy were clearly defined.

"Generally, when a film is held back by the censor board, they cite reasons such as 'excessive violence' or 'scenes that go against social harmony.' We have also heard of instances where certain scenes are removed on these grounds. The film Vishwaroopam is one such example. There were many allegations that it portrayed a minority community as a terrorist group and contained views against them. There have been several such films in the past that faced controversy. The Censor Board is not clearly stating what the issue is, and those associated with the film are also not revealing the full details. It can be understood that there is politics involved in this."

The situation reached a critical juncture this week when reports surfaced that the CBFC had effectively deferred the final decision on the film's release to the Election Commission of India (ECI). Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik addressed the unusual nature of the case, explaining that because the lead actor is a primary political candidate during an active election cycle, the ECI must determine if the film's content violates neutrality guidelines. "This is an unusual case where an actor is also seen as a political leader," she stated.
