Actor Karthi addressed fans regarding the eagerly awaited action thriller sequel Kaithi 2 during a recent promotional event for his upcoming film Sardar 2. Amid overwhelming enthusiasm from the crowd, the actor offered reassurance about the project's progress while playfully teasing director Lokesh Kanagaraj for shifting his focus to acting and other commitments. ‘Kaithi 2’ Update
Responding to continuous chants from fans demanding a status update on Kaithi 2, Karthi promised that the team would deliver the sequel, urging audiences to focus first on his immediate release.
"We'll get it done, we'll get it done. First, we're releasing Sardar 2, so watch that. Then we'll launch Kaithi 2. I'm happy for all the love," Karthi told the cheering crowd.
Addressing the constant updates requested from the director, Karthi quipped, "I'll have a word with Lokesh. He's busy acting and roaming around right now." The lighthearted jab referenced Kanagaraj’s recent acting debut in director Arun Matheswaran's romantic drama DC, alongside his involvement in producing projects like Benz and Mr Bhaarath.

Long Delay for Fan-Favorite LCU Franchise
The original Kaithi, released in 2019, earned over INR 106 crore worldwide and served as the foundational film for the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Following its critical and commercial success, both Karthi and Kanagaraj repeatedly indicated that a sequel was in development.
Over the years, production plans faced recurring delays as Kanagaraj prioritised other directorial assignments within and outside the LCU, including Master (2021), Vikram (2022), Leo (2023), and Coolie (2025). Although Karthi had previously suggested in 2022 that filming for Kaithi 2 would begin after Kanagaraj completed his work with actor Vijay, the project remained on hold while new ventures, including Kanagaraj's upcoming film with Allu Arjun (AA 23), were announced.
Karthi's Upcoming Projects
Karthi is currently preparing for the theatrical release of Sardar 2, a sequel to his 2022 spy thriller, scheduled to hit theatres on September 10.
