Epic Games is planning a comprehensive overhaul of the Epic Games Store as part of its 2026 roadmap, aiming to address long-standing user complaints regarding storefront discovery and application performance. Revealed via internal roadmap slides shared on social media, the upcoming updates include a complete redesign of the digital storefront, a ground-up rebuild of the desktop launcher, and the integration of highly requested social and utility features. Epic Games has not yet announced an official release window for the rollout.

Storefront Redesign and Discovery

The centerpiece of the update is a redesigned storefront designed to improve how players find and evaluate games. The new interface will introduce a personalized home screen that serves tailored game recommendations based on user preferences. Epic Games Layoffs Backlash: Company Criticised After Job Cuts of 1,000 Impact Terminally Ill Employee; CEO Tim Sweeney Pledges Solution.

Additionally, the overhaul will implement quick-access categories and dynamic game pages. To provide more context before a purchase, Epic plans to add in-store patch notes, improved search functionality, and a dedicated player review system, moving away from its historically curated approach to user feedback.

Performance Rebuild and Controller Support

Beyond visual updates, Epic Games is targeting the performance of its desktop client, which has frequently faced criticism for being resource-intensive and slow to load. According to the leaked roadmap slides, a ground-up rebuild of the Epic Games Launcher is underway. Epic Games Drops Antitrust Lawsuit Against Samsung Over App Store-Related Restrictions.

Internal metrics cited in the presentation claim the optimized launcher will deliver a 5x faster cold start on average. Furthermore, users can expect up to a 6.5x faster restore time when navigating back to their game libraries. The update is also set to introduce universal controller support, streamlining the experience for PC players using gamepads.

Ecosystem Expansion and Long-Term Plans

The roadmap outlines several quality-of-life and social features intended to modernize the platform's ecosystem. These include updated player profiles and customizable avatars, UX and design enhancements, and cross-region gifting capabilities.

Separately from the store updates, Epic Games also disclosed long-term engine developments. The company plans to ship early access for its next-generation development platform, Unreal Engine 6 (UE6), by the end of 2027.
