Mumbai, November 5: On the day of Dhanteras today, the rates for 24-carat gold rate is Rs 32,250, up Rs 1,100. The rates in other major cities today is at Rs 31,700 in Chennai, Rs 32,800 in Delhi, Rs 32,950 in Kolkata, and Rs 33,780 in Kerala. The rates for silver has also increased today. The rates for a 10-gram silver is  Rs 414.50. Dhanteras is considered an extremely auspicious occasion to buy gold. The demand has increased on the back of Dhanteras today, Diwali and the upcoming festive season. Talking about the international gold market, last week, gold after moving both ways ended the week a shade lower at USD 1,233.20 an ounce as against previous week's level of USD 1,233.80. Silver too ended almost flat at USD 14.82 an ounce.

Physical gold demand was quite dull last week, with dealers offering discounts for the metal ahead of a traditionally busy festival week for the first time in at least three years, as high prices kept the consumers away.
