Agartala, Aug 4: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) teamed up with Tripura police, Assam police and Border Security Force (BSF) and seized over 3878 kg of cannabis in two separate back-to-back cases in Tripura and Assam on August 1-2. On August 1, a search operation was carried out in the premises of two people, identified as Delowair Hossain and Hussain Ali, both residents of Sepahijala District in Tripura. About 3390.69 kg of ganja (dry cannabis) packed in 85 plastic drums of different sizes was buried under the soil of the land belonging to those two people.

The entire consignment of Ganja was seized and both persons arrested in connection with the case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

In another operation conducted on August 2, 488 kg of Ganja at Angla Bazar, Badarpur in Karimganj district of Assam was seized from an abandoned house by a team of Assam Police, BSF, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

A total of 8900 kg of ganja originating from Tripura has been seized in the past few months, the DRI said. It further stated that it is closely monitoring the development in the Eastern sector in partnership with other Tripura Police, BSF, and other agencies.
