One of the most convenient and fastest mode of transport, Delhi Metro has painted its station near the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-D) campus as FIITJEE IIT. The IIT authorities has approached the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry and the urban development ministry regarding the matter. They have further filed a petition in the Delhi High Court and asked the officials to eliminate the mention of IIT or the coaching institute Forum for Indian Institute of Technology and Joint Entrance Examination (FIITJEE). They put forward the plea as it is misleading the students thought of the Institute having a tie up with the coaching centre.

IIT is concerned about the labelling of IIT metro station as 'FIITJEE IIT' which is serving a misinformation if the popular institute has initiated a partnership with the coaching centre. V Ramgopal Rao, director of IIT-D was quoted in a Hindustan Times report, “The move has led to many alumni, and prospective students asking us whether we have entered into a collaboration with the coaching institute, which is not fair. We have now filed a writ petition in court and hope to get a favourable response.”

DMRC can award naming rights to its stations to private companies and public-sector units as a part of revenue generation program. “Since the matter is sub-judice, we shall suitably reply in court after examining in detail the issues raised by them. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has not done anything illegal in the matter,” Anuj Dayal, spokesperson of DMRC was quoted in the same report. However, when asked to FIITJEE, the authorities declined to comment on the matter.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) are conducted for students to take admissions in various in IITs, government and private aided institutes. And FIITJEE provides coaching to those who aspires to pursue such courses. The hearing for the plea regarding the mention of IIT’s name along with FIITJEE is scheduled to be on July 10.
