There is an important news for all candidates preparing for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) 2018 exam. The Staff Selection Commission which conducts and manages the CHSL exam for recruitment to various staff posts like Postal Assistants/Sorting Assistants(PA/SA), Data Entry Operator (DEO), Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Court Clerk and other posts has called for attention of students wishing to appear for the exams. The notification is put below:

The Admit Cards for SSC CHSL 2018 have already been issued for TIER 1, TIER 2, and TIER 3 examinations. The syllabus for the various tiers are given below:

TIER 1

General Intelligence – The GI test consists questions from – Semantic Classification, Semantic Analogy, Emotional Intelligence, Symbolic operations, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Coding and de-coding, Trends, Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/Number Classification, Figural Analogy, Space Orientation, Drawing inferences, Punched hole/pattern-folding & unfolding, Semantic Series, Figural Classification, Figural Pattern – folding and completion, Word Building, Social Intelligence, Number Series, Embedded figures, Figural Series, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving.

English – English test will have questions from – Synonyms/Homonyms, Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Spellings/Detecting Mis-spelt words, Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases, Improvement of Sentences, One word substitution, Active/Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Comprehension Passage, Cloze Passage.

General Awareness – The General Awareness test will have questions from – Knowledge of current events, general awareness of the environment and society. Questions relating to India and its neighboring countries. General Geography, History, Culture, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research.

Quantitative Aptitude - 

Number Systems: Relationship between numbers, Decimal and Fractions, Computation of Whole Number

Fundamental arithmetical operations: Time and distance, Time and work, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Profit and Loss, Discount, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation.

Algebra: Graphs of Linear Equations, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems).

Geometry: Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts, Circle and its chords, tangents, common tangents to two or more circles, angles subtended by chords of a circle.

Mensuration: Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base, Triangle, Regular Polygons, Quadrilaterals, Circle, Right Circular Cone, Right Prism, Sphere, Hemispheres, Right Circular Cylinder, Rectangular Parallelepiped

Trigonometry: Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin20 + Cos20=1 etc., Trigonometry, Complementary angles, Trigonometric ratios.

Statistical Charts: Bar-diagram, Pie-chart, use of Tables and Graphs, Frequency polygon, Histogram.

Notably, the Tier I exam will have four sections — General Intelligence, English Language (Basic Knowledge), Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill) and General Awareness. Each section will have 25 questions of two marks – maximum 50 marks for each section and candidates will get 60 minutes for solving 100 questions, a total of 200 marks. Also, there will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer by the candidate. The format of the question paper will be Objective Type – multiple choice questions only. No subjective questions will be asked.

Tier II

SSC CHSL 2018 Syllabus for Descriptive Paper (Tier-2) – SSC CHSL 2018 TIER 2 paper intends to evaluate the writing skills of the candidate. It will be a descriptive paper of 100 marks. The Tier-II SSC CHSL paper gives 60 minutes to the candidates. The Tier-II SSC CHSL paper would involve writing Letter/Application around 150-200 words and penning an essay in 200-250 words. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II SSC CHSL paper would be 33%. And the marks obtained in Tier II exam will be included for preparing merit. Candidates can write the paper either in Hindi or in English. It will be a subjective paper.

Tier III

SSC CHSL Syllabus for Tier-III Exam – SSC CHSL 2018 Tier-III of the Examination would continue to be the Skill Test/Typing Test which would be of a qualifying nature. The final merit of SSC CHSL is determined on the basis of total score obtained by the candidates in SSC CHSL Tier-I and SSC CHSL Tier-II. Tier III assess the typing skills of the candidate to check his technical skill capacity. The important dates to keep in mind for the SSC CHSL Exams are:

SSC CHSL Tier-1 Exam: March 4 to March 26, 2018

SSC CHSL Tier-2 Exam: July 8, 2018
