Islamabad, June 19: Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, Chief of the Tehreek-e-Insaf political party (PTI) is in the news over his controversial remark on feminism. Imran in an interview stated that western feminism had degraded the role of mothers. He said to the interviewer that his mother played an influential role in his upbringing. "Children learn from their mothers. Mother's tongue comes from mother... I disagree with the feminist movement that has degraded the role of a mother," he said in an interview.

Several netizens on the social media slammed the politician for having a misguided opinion on western feminism. He drew a lot of flak over on Twitter. An individual user on Twitter in one of his tweets slammed Imran and said that does he know the meaning of feminism.

His ex wife Rehman Khan who was in the news recently over leaked manuscript of her upcoming book, in which she allegedly criticised Imran,  also expressed her disappointment over the remark. She tweeted," Trolls associated with PTI rose to his defence, calling us dastardly feminists with a ‘Western agenda’ and insisting that feminism does indeed ruin the motherhood experience."

Another Twitter user attacked him by saying that a woman does not only have one role --'motherhood' and that perhaps Imran's brain has degraded and not feminism. Several other accused him of being misogynistic and old fashioned.

Imran Khan is one of the leading aspirants for the role of Prime Minister in the country. PTI is considered to be a major contender against Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif-led Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N).
