Mumbai, July 23: The nationwide indefinite strike called by the truck operators has led to huge losses. According to a Times of India report, as thousands of trucks stayed off the roads for the third day, the strike has caused damage of Rs 2,000 crore in Maharashtra, while the nationwide losses are pegged at Rs 10,000 crore. It is expected that the Centre will intervene today and will have a word with the transporters to end their strike.

Trucks transporting essential items like vegetables, fruits, medicine, milk are exempted from the strike, but those who want to take part can do so. All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) started their protest against the constant increase in diesel prices, uncontrollable toll expenses, GST compliance issues, practical problems with e-way bills and some other issues.

According to reports, till Sunday, there has been no reconciliatory talks with the government to resolve the issue. AIMTC Core Committee Chairman Bal Malkit Singh as quoted in the report said, "The movement will get intensified in days to come." The body claims that about 93 trucks are affiliated to them.
