A 40-year-old man was killed after a bundle of iron rods allegedly fell from a moving pickup van and pierced his body in Kerala's Thrissur district, police said. The fatal accident took place in the Kuttanellur area near HiLITE Mall on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sherin John, a resident of Kuttanellur. He was riding a motorcycle in the same direction as the pickup van when the accident occurred at around 10:30 am.
Iron Rods Fall From Moving Pickup Van
According to preliminary information, an autorickshaw reportedly made a sudden U-turn on the road, forcing Sherin to stop his motorcycle abruptly. The pickup van carrying the iron rods was travelling behind him and also stopped suddenly. The sudden braking caused the bundle of iron rods, which appeared to have been loosely secured to the vehicle, to slide forward. The rods then fell from the pickup van and struck Sherin, causing critical injuries.

A video of the incident that has surfaced online shows the aftermath of the accident. Locals can be seen rushing towards Sherin and attempting to remove the iron rods and rescue him.
Kerala Man Rushed To Hospital
Sherin was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, doctors could not save him and he succumbed to his injuries.

Police Begin Investigation
Police have taken the pickup van into custody and registered a case in connection with the transportation of unsecured freight.
An investigation is underway to determine how the iron rods were secured and whether safety regulations were violated while transporting the material.
Police also said Sherin's body would be shifted to the District Hospital mortuary as further procedures are carried out.
