Mumbai, May 18: After all the high-voltage drama that unfolded in Karnataka in the last few days, the tense situation has been somewhat mitigated after the apex court ordered BS Yeddyurappa's government to immediately conduct a floor test to prove their majority in Karnataka. However, with BJP MLA KG Bopaiah from Virajpet appointed as the pro tem speaker for tomorrow’s floor test, the development has created a stir once again in the state. Karnataka's state governor Vajubhai Vala has appointed Bopaiah, a three-time MLA to oversee the proceedings for tomorrow. Congress is unhappy with the appointment said that BJP has not done the right thing. The party was suggesting the name of eight-time Congress MLA VR Deshpande as the pro tem speaker.

The Congress party leaders alleged that the governor(Vala) is acting like BJP's agent. While now they have decided to challenge the appointment of Pro Tem Speaker KG Bopaiah in the court claiming his appointment against the provision of the law. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala in a press conference said that pro tem Speaker should be senior most MLA In this case, RV Deshpande is the senior most leader in the house and hence should have been the Pro Tem instead of  Bopaiah.

The official letter of appointment:

Samajwadi Party National spokesperson Ghanshyam Tiwari raised a strong objection over Bopaiah's appointment. In his tweet, pointing the past instances, he criticised him(Bopaiah) and said a man who was slammed by Supreme Court for his role as Speaker last time has been appointed to oversee the floor test.

Early today the apex court ordered the BJP to conduct a floor test in Karnataka by 4 pm tomorrow, dealing a major blow to the party who was seeking for some more time. However, with the appointment of KG Bopaiah, the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) post-poll alliance are once again ill at ease. There is a lot of speculations how the BJP pro tem speaker will manage the floor test tomorrow since his decision will eventually decide the fate of Karnataka state politics for next five years.

BS Yeddyurappa who is falling short of eight MLAs has to prove the majority in the house tomorrow. However, the party is confident that it will prove the majority. The Congress too had expressed their confidence to win the floor test earlier today. Yeddyurappa was sworn -in as the CM of the state has been asked not to take any major decision until the floor test is done by the court. Also, the verdict discourages conducting secret ballot, which is one of the modes to undertake floor test. So now it is believed that the pro tem speaker is likely to conduct voice voting over the trust confidence motion to be tabled by the BJP in the legislative house to prove their majority
