New Delhi, May 29: Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan established a special hotline contact today at 6:00 pm. Both the sides reviewed prevailing situation along Line of Control and International Border. With the view to improve relation, both the countries agreed to the full implementation of 2003 ceasefire agreement.

"Both DGMOs reviewed the prevailing situation along the Line of Control and Working Boundary and mutually agreed to undertake sincere measures to improve the existing situation ensuring peace and avoidance of hardships to the civilians along the borders," the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, said in a statement.

The Agreement was made by the then Pakistan Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zafarullah Jamali, on 23 November 2003 on the eve of the Eid-al-Fitr. India gave acceptance to the agreement just a few days after Jamali’s proposal.

On April 27, in a telephonic conversation, India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt. Gen. Anil Chauhan told his Pakistani Counterpart that Pakistan’s support to terrorists will increase tensions between the two countries. It was an unscheduled interaction between the two DGMOs.

In 2016, Pakistan violated ceasefire 228 times along the LoC and 221 times along IB, whereas in 2017 there was a sharp rise in the ceasefire violation incidents by Pakistan, a total of 860 times ceasefire violation took place along the LoC and 111 times along the IB. In April this year seven ceasefire violation incidents took place.
