Mumbai, May 31: Union Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh seemed unfazed by his party’s loss in the Bypoll results on 14 seats which were declared on Thursday. The (United) Opposition parties were all gung-ho as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win only two seats on the results day. One of the shocking defeats for the party was of not retaining Kairana (Lok Sabha) seat which it won vehemently in the Lok Sabha Elections 2014.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that to take a giant leap, you will have to take two steps back. Indicating a strong comeback in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections, that are due in 2019, Singh said that the (BJP) party will take a giant leap in the future.

Rajnath Singh didn’t shy away from accepting the party’s loss in the election results that were declared by Election Commission of India (ECI) on May 31. Talking about BJP’s hefty loss, much to the Opposition’s delight, Rajnath Singh commented, “To take a giant leap, you will have to take two steps back. We will take a giant leap in future.”

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) party candidate Tabassum Hasan defeated BJP’s Mriganka Singh by over 55,000 votes to win the much-hyped Kairana Lok Sabha by-poll constituency. In Karnataka, where the polling (in RR Nagar) was deferred till May 28, the Congress’ candidate Munirathna emerged victorious with BJP securing second place.

The only consolation wins the party experienced on the judgement day was when they managed to secure a win in Palghar (Maharashtra – Lok Sabha Bypoll) and Tharali (Uttarakhand –Assembly Election Bypoll) constituencies.

With Lok Sabha Elections 2019 and several other State Assembly Elections (Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh) fast approaching the Narendra Modi-led party need to pull up their socks big time if they want to keep the Mahagathbandhan at bay! Whereas on the other hand, the (United) Opposition parties have a point to ponder upon – if they collude and fight against the BJP, they might have something to contend for, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
