Mumbai, March 29: The Ministry of Law and Justice, on Thursday, has approved of filing a review petition in the Supreme Court on the "alleged dilution" of Schedule Castes (SCs) / Schedule Tribes (STs) atrocities Act; according to reports. This decision was arrived at after an envoy of Dalit Ministers had met PM Narendra Modi a day before.

The envoy was headed by Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. It shared its concern about the Apex Court’s judgement of diluting some crucial provisions of the SCs/STs atrocities Act. After meeting the Prime Minister, Paswan said that the discussions were ‘positive’.

Talking about the meeting, Paswan said, "Prime Minister Modi will not say if review petition (on SC ruling over SC/ST Act) will be filed or not, it’ll be done by the government and when the government is saying we are examining it that means the government is positive about it."

Also present in the envoy were Union Ministers Ramdas Athawle, Jual Oram, and Arjun Ram Meghwa. Several Members of Parliament (MPs) were also the part of the meeting with Narendra Modi.

Earlier, several Opposition leaders led by Congress President Rahul Gandhi had also raised their concerns on the dilutions by Supreme Court with President Ram Nath Kovind. During their meet with the President, the Opposition sought his intervention, mentioning that the Court’s order has created a ‘sense of insecurity’ among the Dalit people.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “We met the President on the dilution of the SC/ST Act... The atrocities (on Dalits and Tribals) are increasing and the Act is being diluted. The President was quite positive and supportive," after his meet with President along with leaders of BSP, NCP, CPI-M, SP, and DMK amongst other parties.
