The Raigad police has cracked down the case of food poisoning in Khalapur, located 60 km from Mumbai. A woman has been arrested and charged with 'attempted murder' for mixing pesticide in food served at party hosted by her relative in Mahad village. Police say she confessed to doing it because of "family disputes". 120 people fall ill and 5 died after eating at the party on Monday.

In Maharashtra, the ban on plastic comes into effect from today. Wholesalers, distributors, retailers and consumers will be barred from using all forms of plastic bags and storage items. The violators would be charged Rs 5,000 for first offence, followed by Rs 10,000 for second offence and Rs 25,000 and 3 months in prison for third violation.
