Mumbai, July 3: Mumbai woke up to heavy rains today and just as they were busy making their way to their offices in the midst of waterlogged streets, the news of a part of a road overbridge collapse in Andheri Station came up. According to a report on ANI, it has been identified as Gokhale Bridge, that connects Andheri East to West.

Train services on the Western Line have been affected because of the mishap. Reportedly, two people are injured in the accident and rescue operation is still underway. Mumbai locals are the lifeline of the city, and when the services get halted, the lives of several people get affected. Post the bridge collapse, rumours started doing the rounds that Central Railway lines are also affected, thus creating more panic among the commuters.

However, Central Railways was quick to put all the rumours to rest, by publishing a post saying- 'Trains on Central Railway's main, harbour and trans-harbour lines are running normally. Please do not believe in rumours."

The Central Railways have asked people not to panic. They have issued another statement saying, "Crowd management machinery on Central Railway stations has been strengthened at all stations from Ghatkopar onwards. For the convenience of the commuters, Harbour line passengers are allowed to travel on Central Railway main line suburban section."

In the latest development to the Andheri Bridge collapse, five people have been injured and are sent to the hospital. It is believed that no one is trapped under the debris and the rescue work is underway. R Kudvalkar, Railway Protection Force said, "Don't think anyone is trapped under debris. Railway admn, RPF, GRP, City Police are present and clearance of debris underway. Railway will probably start functioning in next 4 hrs."

In the last 21 hours between 8.30 am yesterday and 5.30 am today, Santa Cruz in Mumbai has recorded 97 mm of rains. According to Skymet Weather app, more rains are expected in the city today.
