Expanding Regional Outreach Across India

The fitment factor remains the central point of interest for both serving personnel and pensioners, as it directly determines base pay revisions across pay matrix levels.
The 6th Pay Commission had adopted a fitment factor of 1.86, while the 7th Pay Commission set it at 2.57. Employee federations, including the National Council (Staff Side) Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) and the Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh (BPMS), have formally requested a fitment factor exceeding 3.5x to account for inflation and cost-of-living increases.
The Commission's final recommendation on the multiplier will serve as the baseline for the Union Cabinet's eventual decision on revised salary and pension bands.
What Lies Ahead
Under its terms of reference, the 8th Pay Commission has an 18-month mandate to formulate and submit its recommendations, placing the expected report submission window between May and June 2027.
