A 16-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad died after falling nearly 45 feet from a zipline ride at an amusement park in Agra on Sunday. Police said the accident may have been caused by the breaking of the ropeway hook. The victim was declared dead at SN Medical College, while the park’s manager and safety incharge were taken into custody for questioning.

A 16-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad died after falling from a zipline ride at an amusement park in Agra on Sunday evening, May 24, police said. Preliminary investigations suggest the accident may have been caused by the breaking of the ropeway hook during the ride.

The incident took place at an amusement and adventure venue known as Agra Chowpati. Police said the boy fell from a height of around 45 feet while using the zipline attraction. According to police, officers received information around 6 pm that a boy had fallen from the ropeway and suffered serious injuries. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Gaurav said personnel from Tajganj police station immediately reached the spot and shifted the injured boy to the emergency ward of SN Medical College and Hospital.

“Police from Tajganj police station reached the spot and took the injured boy to the emergency ward of SN Medical College and Hospital but doctors declared him dead”, said ADCP (Crime) at Agra. Hook Failure Suspected in Accident

Police said initial findings indicate that the ropeway’s calibre hook may have broken during the ride.

“Initial information suggests that the breaking of the hook on the calibre of ropeway was the cause of the incident. The body was sent for post mortem and a case was registered. Two of the staff including safety incharge and Chaupati manager were taken in custody for interrogation”, Himanshu Gaurav said.

In another statement to media, the officer added: “Initial investigation revealed that the incident was caused due to the breaking of the rope’s calibre hook. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Other necessary legal proceeding are underway.”

After the incident, police teams inspected the zipline ride and questioned staff members who were present at the amusement park at the time of the accident. Officials said they are checking maintenance records of the ride and examining whether proper safety inspections had been conducted before allowing visitors to use the attraction.

Investigators are also looking into whether adequate safety equipment, supervision and emergency response arrangements were in place.

Staff Taken Into Custody

Police confirmed that the Chowpati manager and the safety incharge have been taken into custody for questioning as part of the investigation.

Authorities said further legal action will depend on the post-mortem report, technical inspection findings, maintenance records and statements collected from witnesses and staff members. A Delhi-based company had reportedly been contracted for the amusement park operations. Officials said a statement from the company is awaited.
