Four members of a family, including a local Congress leader and former sarpanch, were found dead on Thursday morning under highly suspicious circumstances following a vehicle fire in Shrirampura village, approximately 60 kilometers from Ajmer.
Four members of a family, including a former sarpanch, were found dead inside a burnt vehicle in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district on Thursday, with police suspecting that the victims may have been murdered before the vehicle was set on fire. The incident was reported from Shrirampura village, around 60 kilometres from Ajmer city. The deceased were identified as former sarpanch Ram Singh Choudhary, his wife Suryagyan Devi, his mother Poosi Devi, and a relative, Mahima Chaudhary.
According to police, a Scorpio SUV was found engulfed in flames near a highway close to the family’s residence in the early hours of Thursday morning. Three charred bodies were recovered from inside the vehicle, while a fourth body was found in a nearby field. Ajmer Superintendent of Police Harsh Vardhan Agarwala said initial findings suggested the case may not be an accident. Investigators reportedly found injury marks on some bodies and blood stains inside the family’s house, strengthening suspicions of foul play.
Police said Ram Singh Choudhary had two wives and that there had been ongoing disputes within the family. Investigators are examining whether the killings were linked to domestic tensions. According to officials, the former sarpanch’s first wife and some family members have been detained for questioning. Police suspect the victims may have been killed at home before their bodies were transported in the SUV and the vehicle was set ablaze to make the incident appear accidental.
Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams and mobile forensic units have inspected the scene and collected samples from multiple locations connected to the case. Police said they are investigating both the possibility of a technical fault in the vehicle and the murder angle. Authorities have shifted the bodies for post-mortem examinations, and further investigation is underway.
