Alipurduar Shocker: Man Beaten to Death by Sister-in-Law and Her Husband Over a Joke; Arrested

A 40-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his sister-in-law and her husband following a dispute over a joke on Saturday night. The incident occurred at the Bundapani tea estate in the Madarihat block of Alipurduar district, sending shockwaves through the local community. The victim, identified as Bimal Mahali, resided in the Nepali Lines area of the tea estate. According to police reports, Bimal and the primary accused, 36-year-old Biman Munda, were related by marriage, having married two sisters. Witnesses and family members stated that Bimal frequently engaged in lighthearted banter with his sister-in-law, Komal Nag Munda. However, on Saturday evening, a similar remark reportedly triggered a violent reaction. The situation escalated rapidly when Biman allegedly tied Bimal up and assaulted him using bamboo sticks and an iron rod. Komal reportedly joined her husband in the physical transition. Local residents eventually alerted the Birpara police after the assault intensified. Officers arrived at the scene and transported a critically injured Bimal to the Birpara hospital, located approximately 15 km away, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s son, Pawan Mahali, the police arrested both Biman and Komal Munda. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact nature of the remarks that led to the fatal confrontation.
