Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, naming an outsourced cook as the primary accused.

The matter came to light after the student experienced health complications and was admitted to a government hospital in Kakinada. Medical examinations conducted on September 10 confirmed her pregnancy. Following the diagnosis, the school’s headmistress filed an official complaint with local police. According to the complaint, the student alleged that K. Mangaraju, an outsourced cook employed at the residential school, sexually assaulted her on three separate occasions. Police initiated legal proceedings against the accused under the POCSO Act alongside other relevant statutory provisions. Simultaneously, officials from the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) launched an independent inquiry into the administrative and security lapses at the residential facility. As a preliminary administrative measure, district authorities suspended three officials: Headmistress D. Shanthimathi, Hostel Welfare Officer P. Vijayakantham, and K. District Tribal Welfare Department official M. Rukmandayya stated that the suspensions were enforced to guarantee an unhindered and impartial investigation. In response to the incident, state authorities issued strict guidelines to step up security protocols, increase monitoring mechanisms, and ensure strict supervision across all tribal ashram schools in the region.
