A 42-year-old experienced motorcycle rider from Hyderabad, Anil Marla, has been missing for 12 days after a road accident on the remote Darcha-Shinku La road in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district. Rescue teams have recovered his damaged Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle and personal belongings but have not yet located him.

According to officials, Anil was wearing complete protective riding gear, including a helmet and a heavy riding jacket, when the accident occurred. Search teams recovered his damaged Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle, helmet, mobile phone and travel bag from the mountain stream and surrounding area.
Authorities suspect that the force of the stream may have carried him downstream into the Bhaga river, eventually towards the Tandi confluence, where the Bhaga and Chandra rivers merge to form the Chenab river.
Rescue Teams Search Difficult Terrain
Since the accident, teams from the Himachal Pradesh Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local volunteers and residents have been conducting search operations across difficult terrain.
The operation has covered deep mountain gorges, icy streams and dangerous riverbanks. Teams have also expanded their search to inaccessible stretches of the valley.
Drones are being used to scan riverbanks and locations that are difficult to reach on foot. An official said the search operation is continuing, but no trace of Anil Marla has been found so far.
Family Appeals for Help
Anil’s wife, Sumita Sharma, has been staying in Lahaul for the past few days and has continued efforts to find her husband. She last received a message from Anil on July 19 and later tried calling him several times, but his phone was switched off. She then contacted police stations in Keylong and Padum. Police later informed her that Anil had met with an accident near Darcha.
Anil’s family has requested assistance from district administrations and police authorities in Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh, along with Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
They have also appealed to locals, shepherds, trekkers, tourists, travellers, volunteers and workers at hydroelectric projects and dams along the river route to remain alert and share any possible information. The search continues as teams work through challenging weather and terrain conditions in an effort to locate the missing rider.
