Srinagar, August 14: In what has signalled the partial resumption of normalcy in Jammu & Kashmir, the administration has removed all restrictions in Jammu region. Phone lines, both mobile and broadband, have been resumed and curfew completely withdrawn, said Additional Director General of J&K Police Munir Khan.

The curbs, however, would continue to remain in the Muslim-majority Valley considering the threats posed by radical elements and external forces, Khan added. In the near future, the restrictions would be completely relaxed in Kashmir as well, he claimed. Jammu and Kashmir: Restrictions Eased Out in Phased Manner to Prevent Deaths, Says Government

"Restrictions have been lifted in Jammu, schools and other establishments are functional. In Kashmir, restrictions at certain places are in place. Restriction aren't imposed in a generalised manner," the ADGP said.

Khan also dismissed reports of protests and demonstrations in Srinagar, claiming that the clips which have went viral on social media pertain to miniscule gathering of miscreants.

"There have been localised incidents in various parts of Srinagar and other districts, which have been contained. There have been no major injuries. There have been a few pellet injuries, they were treated. Our biggest endeavor is that no civil casualty should take place," he said.

"When a new situation of law and order arises, opposite parties including the neighbouring states take the initiative of unleashing the propaganda. Videos of 2016 and 2010 are in circulation now, that is part of propaganda. We're taking all measures to thwart these attempts," the top police official added.

On being asked whether the state is prepared for Independence Day, Khan said adequate security arrangement has been made. People of Jammu, as well as Kashmir, can celebrate peacefully, he claimed.
