Guwahati, October 20: In yet another fatal road mishap, at least 7 were dead and 21 left injured as an Assam State Transport Corporation bus fall into a pond in Adabari area of Nalbari district, located close to state capital Guwahati.

Preliminary reports said the bus driver lost control over the speed, which led to the vehicle turning turtle and falling into a pond. A police official at the site told reporters that nearly 50 people were on board, with 7 being confirmed dead, whereas, 21 sent to hospital with serious injuries. Some of the passengers swam to safety, whereas, a few are feared to be trapped inside.

The ill-fated bus was on its way to Barpeta from Guwahati via Mukalmua. The state government has asked the Nalbari district administration to extend all possible aid to the families of the victim. The nearby hospitals have been asked to take all possible measures to minimise the number of casualties. An announcement of compensation to the deceased's kin is expected.
