Dispur, August 26: The administration in Assam's Kamrup Metropolitan district which had earlier declared that schools in the area would remain shut for two days due to 'extreme heat conditions', took back its order and said that the schools will be open as the conditions have "improved." In view of the "extreme heat conditions" in Assam's Kamrup Metropoliton district, all the schools in the area were instructed to remain shut for two days by the administration. Maharashtra Reels Under Severe Heatwave Condition, Nagpur Sizzles at 45 Degrees Celsius.

The schools were to remain closed on August 27 and August 28, informed the local administration. But the administration withdrew its earlier notice and has now clarified that the schools would function on both August 27 and August 28, reported news agency ANI.

Amid heavy rains and flooding in the different parts of India, Assam has been facing the wrath of heat waves for the past few weeks.

The residents of Guwahati and parts of Assam are battling strong heatwaves for the past few days. The worst hit due to the heat wave are school children who have to travel in the burning heat in the afternoons. Guwahati, Assam's largest city, had recorded maximum temperature of 39.02 degrees Celsius in August first week. This was the highest temperature recorded in the month of August in a decade in the state of Assam, said the  Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Adding to the woes of people suffering from the heat waves are the power cuts witnessed in the past few days. Due to the growing heat, the electricity consumption has gone up in Guwahati and surrounding areas. Loadshedding has been reported from several places, making life difficult for the residents.
