Bangladeshi National Held at Kerala Naval Academy With Fake Indian Documents

A 32-year-old Bangladeshi national was arrested on Friday after allegedly working as a contract employee at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, Kerala, using forged documents that identified him as an Indian citizen. The man, identified in reports as Biplob Soren, was reportedly employed in the academy's laundry section and had been working there for nearly a year.

Naval authorities reportedly became suspicious of Soren's behaviour and placed him under observation. During questioning and verification, officials allegedly found documents and other information on his mobile phone indicating that he was a Bangladeshi citizen, NDTV reported. Fake Documents Under Investigation

According to reports, Soren was allegedly carrying a fake Aadhaar card identifying him as an Indian citizen. Officials also reportedly recovered a Police Clearance Certificate purportedly issued by the Murshidabad police in West Bengal.

There are differences in reports over the spelling of his name. Some reports identify him as Biplab Soren, while others use Viplav or Biplob Soren. Police have reportedly said that it is yet to be established whether the name is his real identity. Investigators are now examining how the alleged forged documents were obtained and whether anyone helped him secure them.

Nearly A Year Working Inside Naval Academy

Soren was reportedly working as a contract worker in the laundry section of the naval academy. His employment at the strategically sensitive defence establishment is now a key focus of the investigation.

Authorities are examining how he was recruited, who facilitated his employment and how his alleged foreign nationality went undetected during his period of work.

Investigators are also looking into whether he had access to any restricted areas or information as part of his duties. At present, authorities have not publicly established any broader security-related activity connected to him.

Intelligence Input Led To Arrest

The arrest reportedly followed information received from intelligence agencies. Naval authorities subsequently questioned Soren and examined the documents and information found during the verification process.

After the questioning and initial verification, he was handed over to local police for further investigation. Police are expected to investigate the alleged use of forged documents, his immigration status and the circumstances under which he obtained employment at the academy.

Wider Probe Into Undocumented Bangladeshi Nationals

The development comes amid police action against undocumented Bangladeshi nationals in different parts of Kannur district.

Authorities have also been investigating cases involving Bangladeshi nationals, including women, who were allegedly staying in the district without valid documents.

The Ezhimala case has added another line of inquiry for investigators, particularly concerning the alleged use of Indian identity documents by foreign nationals to obtain employment.

The investigation will now focus on how Soren allegedly obtained the documents, who helped him secure the contract job and how his nationality remained undetected for nearly a year.

Officials are also examining the duration of his employment and whether any other individuals were involved in facilitating his access to the naval establishment. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not publicly disclosed any evidence establishing a wider security threat arising from the case.
