A man posing as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and claiming to be an undercover agent for National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has been arrested in Bihar’s Khagaria district. Authorities took the accused, identified as Manish Gupta, into custody on Monday, August 10, following a police raid at his residence in Jamalpur. The arrest has shed light on a sophisticated impersonation scheme, with police uncovering a stash of luxury assets and fabricated government credentials used to allegedly defraud citizens across the state.

Elaborate Impersonation Scheme

According to investigators, the accused had curated an elaborate identity to lend credibility to his fraudulent activities, reports India Today. Khagaria Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhanu Pratap Singh stated that Gupta had presented himself as an IAS officer to deceive victims. NSA Ajit Doval Reveals Why He Doesn't Use a Phone, Video Goes Viral.

"During interrogation, Gupta showed a card of the Central Vigilance Commission and claimed that he worked as an undercover agent under National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. He also showed an identity card mentioning him to be an IAS officer. Preliminary investigation showed that all these claims were fake," the SP said. Police confirmed that the identity cards recovered from the residence were fabricated, and the purported connections to the National Security Advisor’s office were entirely false.

Seizure of Luxury Vehicles and Contraband

The police raid at Gupta’s residence resulted in the seizure of several high-value assets and prohibited items. Among the most notable recoveries was a Tesla car featuring a "Government of India" board. "The Tesla car with full self-driving technology feature is a rarity in India," the SP noted. In addition to the Tesla, a Tata Safari was also impounded from the premises. Authorities believe these vehicles were used by Gupta while travelling across Bihar to facilitate his fraudulent operations. Further searches of the property yielded:

Ongoing Investigation into Fraudulent Assets

The Bihar Police has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the scale of the fraud. Officials are particularly focused on tracing the source of Gupta’s wealth and identifying his victims. "The assets he acquired were through fraud, deception, or corruption," SP Singh stated. The investigation is expected to expand, with local authorities seeking assistance from the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) to uncover the full extent of the impersonation and potential financial crimes committed by the accused.
