Two cousins in a village near Bijnor have died after testing positive for HIV, raising concern among local residents and questions about their reported contact with a woman who had rented accommodation in the area. The woman later left the locality, but there is no official confirmation that she transmitted HIV to either of the two men.

The case came to light after both cousins developed serious health problems and were taken to hospitals in Bijnor, Rishikesh and Dehradun after treatment locally failed to improve their condition, Aaj Tak reported. Medical tests later confirmed HIV infection in both men. Their health subsequently deteriorated, and both died during treatment. Why Karnataka's Active HIV and AIDS Cases Have Climbed From 44,000 to Over 66,000.

How The Case Came To Light

According to local residents and family members, a woman moved into a rented room in a village adjoining Bijnor city around two years ago. Locals said young men began visiting her room after she moved into the area. During the same period, the health of the two cousins began to deteriorate. Their families initially sought treatment locally before taking them to hospitals in Bijnor and later to Rishikesh and Dehradun.

Medical tests eventually confirmed that both men were HIV positive. One of the cousins was reportedly taken to AIIMS Rishikesh when his condition worsened. Despite treatment, his health continued to decline. According to family members, the other cousin told them after his diagnosis that he had been in contact with the woman. He also reportedly said he had seen his cousin visiting the woman's room.

Woman’s Sudden Departure Raises Questions

The woman reportedly stayed in the area for several months before vacating the rented accommodation and moving elsewhere. Her departure has since become a subject of discussion among local residents, particularly after the HIV diagnoses and deaths of the two cousins.

However, the available reports do not establish that the woman was HIV positive. Nor has any official investigation confirmed that she transmitted HIV to either of the men. The woman's identity has not been publicly disclosed.

Health Department To Investigate

The Bijnor health department has said the matter will be investigated and that medical records and test results will be examined to establish the facts. The Chief Medical Officer of Bijnor said the number of people coming forward for HIV testing has increased in recent months and that patients who test positive are receiving treatment.

Officials have stressed that medical examination and appropriate testing are necessary to determine a person's HIV status. Establishing whether one particular individual transmitted HIV to another requires evidence beyond the fact that the two people had contact.

What Is Confirmed So Far

The two cousins were diagnosed with HIV and subsequently died after their health deteriorated. Their reported contact with the woman and her subsequent departure from the area are also part of the accounts being examined.

What remains unconfirmed is whether the woman had HIV and, if so, whether she was the source of either man's infection. Health authorities are therefore relying on medical records, testing and investigation rather than local speculation to establish the circumstances surrounding the case.
