According to local police officials, the collision was severe enough to leave the front section of the SUV completely mangled, trapping all six occupants inside. Nearby residents and emergency personnel rushed to the spot to launch a rescue operation, extricating the victims from the vehicle after significant effort. Five of the occupants died on the spot due to the impact. The deceased have been identified as Ankur Patel, Mridun Patel, Vishesh Patel, Harishankar Patel, and a fifth family member. Authorities confirmed that the victims belong to the family of the late former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Lalji Patel.
The sole survivor, identified as Sanjeev Kumar Patel, sustained severe injuries and was found in critical condition. After receiving preliminary medical attention locally, he was rushed to a hospital in Jabalpur for specialized treatment. Following the news of the tragedy, former state minister Ramkhelawan Patel visited the hospital to offer condolences and support to the grieving family. Preliminary investigations by the Dehat police suggest that high speed or driver fatigue may have caused the SUV to crash into the truck ahead of it. Law enforcement officials have launched a formal investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations
