The tension between the Trinamool Congress and BJP is on a rise after saffron party's good performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. On May 30, Banerjee reprimanded some people for chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' and said that they are "BJP people and criminals from outside the state."

After a controversy broke out on the issue, Banerjee on Sunday evening said that she has no issues with "Jai Shri Ram" slogan and said that BJP is targeting Bengal in a very negative manner. Reacting to Banerjee, BJP MP said that she "belongs to the family of demon king Hirankashyap," an ancient ruler who put his son behind bars for believing in God.
