Mumbai, December 20: In the month of July this year, BMC had introduced a fine of Rs 10,000 on cars owners, parking their vehicles in no-parking zones. The amount was increased to Rs 10,000 for cars in an attempt to provide relief to motorists and emergency vehicles. However, according to a Mumbai Mirror report, BMC is planning to reduce the amount which has been termed as 'draconian' by vehicle owners.

A formal announcement is likely to be made soon, but the amount is likely to be made more than half the current fine amount. The corporation collected over Rs 66 lakh in new fines in a month and penalised 1,029 owners till now. The report further mentions that in the first month itself, the average collection per day was Rs 2.22 lakhs. BMC to Impose Rs 10,000 Fine on Those Parking Vehicles Illegally Across Mumbai.

This excessively high fine of Rs 10,000 was also criticised by Mumbai Parking Authority's new head Gautam Chatterjee who had said that the power to penalise owners of illegally parked vehicles only lies with RTO and the traffic police. BMC on Thursday informed that fines will be reduced on arterial roads where traffic congestion has eased.
