A road-rage dispute in Navi Mumbai's Nerul area turned violent on August 15 when an Ola cab driver was allegedly assaulted with a bamboo stick and then dragged for around two kilometres on the bonnet of a car, police said. The incident took place on Sarsole village road in Sector 20 near Nerul pond at around 9.35 pm, TOI reported.

The injured cab driver, identified as Pradeepkumar Pandey, 27, a resident of Naigaon, subsequently approached Nerul police and filed a complaint against the unidentified driver of a Swift car. Dispute Began Over Overtaking

According to the complaint and police account, the incident began after the Swift driver allegedly objected to the way the Ola cab was being driven. The Swift driver reportedly claimed that the Ola cab driver had dangerously cut him off while overtaking on an internal road in Nerul. An argument followed between the two drivers, which later escalated into physical violence. The Swift driver allegedly picked up a bamboo stick and struck Pandey on the head, leaving him seriously injured.

Cab Driver Dragged on Bonnet

The confrontation allegedly escalated further when the Swift driver drove away with Pandey on the bonnet of the car. According to the police account, the cab driver remained on the bonnet for approximately two kilometres, shouting for help and asking the driver to stop. He reportedly feared that he could fall from the moving vehicle and suffer fatal injuries. Nimisha Nair Harassed by Two Youths on Mumbai Highway, Actress Shares Shocking Road Rage Incident Video – WATCH.

The car eventually slowed down, allowing Pandey to jump off the bonnet. The driver then allegedly fled the area, leaving the injured cab driver on the road.

Police Register FIR

Nerul police registered an FIR against the unidentified Swift driver following Pandey's complaint. Senior Inspector Ajay Kamble said police had invoked relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous means, causing hurt, and rash or negligent driving that endangers human life or personal safety. Police are now attempting to identify and trace the accused driver.

Investigation Underway

The incident occurred several days before the case was reported on August 19. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the subsequent assault.

The case highlights how a dispute arising from routine driving manoeuvres can quickly escalate into a serious road-safety incident. The investigation will determine the sequence of events and the role of the accused driver in the alleged assault and dangerous driving.
