Chandigarh, March 19: A shocking daylight murder in Chandigarh has intensified concerns over rising gang violence after gangster Lucky Patiala claimed responsibility for the killing of realtor Chamanpreet Singh, also known as Chini Kubaheri. The brazen attack took place in Sector 9 and was captured on CCTV, sending panic across the city.
According to police, Chamanpreet Singh had just exited a gym and entered his SUV near Madhya Marg when a gunman approached and opened fire. The attacker fired multiple rounds through the passenger window before moving to the driver’s side and shooting at close range as the victim tried to flee. Investigators recovered around a dozen empty shells, indicating a pre-planned and targeted hit. The assailants reportedly escaped toward Mohali on a motorcycle. Hours after the incident, Lucky Patiala, linked to the Bambiha gang, allegedly took to social media to claim responsibility. He accused Chamanpreet Singh of being an informant for rival gangs and hinted the killing was revenge for a previous murder case involving Gurvinder Singh in Mohali. Sources reveal that the victim had recently reported receiving an extortion threat of INR 50 lakh, suspected to be connected to gang activity. Authorities are now probing whether the extortion demand directly led to the fatal shooting.
The incident marks the fourth major firing case in Chandigarh in the past three months, raising alarms about escalating gang rivalries. Business groups and residents have expressed concern over public safety, urging stronger policing and preventive action.
