The Gurugram police have arrested three men for allegedly acting as facilitators for a cyber fraud syndicate that cheated pilgrims by offering fake helicopter bookings for the Char Dham Yatra. The arrests were made by the Cyber Police Station (South) on Wednesday.
The suspects have been identified as Ajit Kumar Shah (30) of Ballia, Pradum (30) of Azamgarh, and Vinay (40) of Sultanpur, all residents of Uttar Pradesh. Police recovered five mobile phones, five bank passbooks, 16 cheque books, and 18 ATM cards from their possession during the operation. According to investigators, the trio specialized in creating the financial infrastructure used to siphon off money from victims. During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they systematically updated the addresses on their Aadhaar cards to open more than 10 bank accounts each across multiple financial institutions.
These mule accounts-along with the associated cheque books, passbooks, and ATM cards-were then supplied to the main cybercrime syndicate. The suspects reportedly received a commission of ₹5,000 for each fully operational bank account they handed over.
The police investigation revealed that Vinay was the initial point of contact, having joined the operation at the behest of an unnamed associate before recruiting Shah and Pradum into the network. A preliminary check on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal has already linked the seized bank accounts and phone numbers to three separate cyber fraud complaints. "We are working to establish the identities of their associates, trace the financial transactions carried out through these accounts, and uncover the wider cyber fraud network."
