Narayanpur, November 6: Around 62 Maoist with arms has surrendered before Bastar IG Vivekanand Sinha and Narayanpur SP Jitendra Shukla in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur area on Tuesday, reported news agency ANI. According to the report, 31 Naxalites have surrendered with country-made weapons and 11 others surrendered without weapons. While at least five Maoist among them had a standing warrant against them.

A statement by local police said 62 Maoist had been the active members of the Tumeradi Jantana Sarkar under Kutul area committee of Maoist. According to the sources, after surrendering, the Maoists said that they have lost important time in their lives and now want to work with mainstream connectivity. Earlier in August, a senior Maoist leader, Pahad Singh surrendered before the police in Chattisgarh. Singh, who as carrying 25 Lakh bounty, was a member of newly-formed Special Zonal Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh Committee (SZMMC). He had joined the Maoist party in the late 90s, and since he was actively involved with them. While surrendering he told police that he was fed up with discrimination in his party between cadres of Andhra Pradesh and local ones.
