Chennai, December 5: In a shocking data, revealed by the police of crime against women and children, at least 1,500 people across the state downloaded child pornographic material in just a week in November. According to a Times of India report, the data was found by the ethical hacking volunteers' group, identified by the Cybercrime department of the police.

The IP addresses of those who downloaded the obscene videos were tracked. Police are further trying to crack down on those who downloaded the videos or forwarded others via WhatsApp or other social media platforms. The cops have asked people not to entertain people circulating or receiving any kind of pornographic material. There has been a tremendous rise in atrocities against women. Last week, the Narendra Modi government informed that it had taken down 377 child pornography websites, while First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed against the people promoting such content.

Earlier in August this year, the  Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, POCSO, 2019 was passed to curb child pornography. According to the POCSO (Amendment) Act, those who use a child for pornographic purposes should be fined and also be imprisoned up to five years.
