CJP Calls Fresh Jantar Mantar March Today

CJP has issued a fresh 'Jantar Mantar Chalo' call for Sunday, October 11, seeking to resume its protest against Gyanesh Kumar. Party leader Ajinkya Shinde is expected to lead the mobilisation in the absence of the detained leaders. The protest is focused on alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. CJP is demanding Kumar's resignation and the scrapping of the SIR exercise. Delhi Police had denied permission for the planned demonstration, citing law-and-order concerns, public safety and possible inconvenience to residents. Despite the restrictions, the party has indicated that its agitation will continue.

Heavy Security at Jantar Mantar, Barricades Across Delhi

Delhi Police is maintaining heightened security on Sunday, with Jantar Mantar remaining sealed off and barricades in place across key areas of the capital. According to Hindustan Times, police are also maintaining security at Delhi's borders and planning traffic diversions at around 30 locations to prevent protesters from entering central Delhi.

Security personnel are expected to regulate movement on major roads depending on the situation. Restrictions on gatherings, processions and road blockades under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita remain in force until further orders.

The security arrangements follow Saturday's extensive police deployment, when protesters attempting to reach Jantar Mantar were detained or dispersed. Small demonstrations were reported at several locations, including Dilli Haat, the Safdarjung flyover and areas around Connaught Place. Commuters and residents travelling through central Delhi may face restrictions or diversions as the police continue efforts to prevent large gatherings.

What Happened During Saturday's CJP Protest?

Saturday's planned demonstration failed to reach its intended venue amid extensive barricading, preventive detentions and restrictions on movement. Several opposition leaders and activists were also detained while attempting to participate in or support the protest.

According to reports, thousands of people were detained during the police operation, although figures have varied across accounts. Some detainees were subsequently released. The security measures also affected public transport and movement in parts of the capital. Authorities had temporarily restricted access to several Metro stations on Saturday before services were restored later in the day.

Why Is CJP Protesting Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar?

CJP's campaign centres on objections to the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The party alleges irregularities in the exercise and wants the process scrapped. The protest has drawn attention beyond CJP, with opposition leaders and other activists joining the wider campaign against the electoral roll revision exercise and demanding accountability from the Election Commission.

Delhi Police's restrictions have prevented demonstrators from assembling at the designated venue, while the party's decision to call another march on Sunday has kept the situation under close watch.
