New Delhi, September 6: Videos emerging from South Delhi's Satya Niketan area show people being rescued from a collapsed building as emergency teams continue a massive rescue operation. The five-storey structure, identified as a private paying guest (PG) accommodation where students were staying, collapsed on Sunday afternoon.

At least three people have been rescued so far, officials said, while several others are feared to remain trapped inside the debris. Visuals from the scene show rescue personnel carefully pulling people out of the collapsed structure and carrying out search operations amid the debris. The videos also show emergency teams working to reach those believed to be trapped inside the building.

Building Collapses in Delhi

The Delhi Fire Service received information about the building collapse at around 1:30 pm, following which fire tenders and rescue teams were rushed to the site. A Delhi Fire Service official said five fire tenders have been deployed along with police teams.

"The exact number of persons trapped/ injured is not known at present... Further details will be shared as and when confirmed," the Delhi Police said.

A team of the NDRF has also been deployed at the site, while senior officials are supervising the rescue operation. The adjacent building has been vacated as a precautionary measure.

CM Rekha Gupta Says Situation 'Deeply Concerning'

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the situation was "deeply concerning" and that it was being closely monitored. She said several agencies were working together to rescue those trapped and provide assistance to affected families.

"Teams from DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence are carrying out rescue operations on a war footing. The adjacent building has been vacated as a precautionary measure. Every possible effort is being made to safely rescue those trapped and provide immediate assistance to the affected families," she said on X, formerly Twitter.

BJP MLA Says Students Still Trapped

BJP MLA Anil Sharma described the incident as "deeply tragic" and "heartbreaking", saying the government was focused on rescuing the students believed to be trapped inside.

"Students come here from various places to study and stay in PGs in this building; the structure has collapsed. While it is difficult to state the exact number- whether there are five, ten, or twenty students- we know for certain that students are trapped inside. Two students have already been rescued by the NDRF and MCD. Some students are even making calls from within, and it appears there are still others trapped inside, so rescue efforts are ongoing," Sharma said.

The rescue operation remains underway, with teams continuing to search the debris for survivors. Further details about the number of people trapped or injured are awaited.
