Delhi Horror: 11-Year-Old Girl Sleeping on Pavement Kidnapped, Raped and Murdered Near Haryana Border; Cab Driver Arrested

The Delhi Police have arrested a 29-year-old cab driver for allegedly abducting, raping, and murdering an 11-year-old girl before discarding her body in a forested area near the Gurugram-Faridabad border. The suspect, identified as Bashu Kumar Singh, was apprehended within six hours of the incident while he was dropping off a passenger. Singh, an app-based cab driver who already faces four prior cases of s*xual assault in Bihar, has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal, the abduction took place around 5:00 AM on Monday while the minor was sleeping with her family on a pavement at CDR Chowk in Mehrauli, South Delhi. The family immediate noticed her absence and alerted authorities, prompting the formation of nearly 20 specialized police teams. Investigators tracked the vehicle's movements toward the Haryana border using local intelligence and CCTV footage. Following his arrest, police stated that the accused confessed during interrogation to abducting the child, s*xually assaulting her, and subsequently strangling her to death. The victim’s body was recovered from a forest stretch along the Gurugram-Faridabad road following disclosures made by the suspect. The body has since been sent to Safdarjung Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have collected samples from both the abduction spot and the recovery site. During a subsequent police operation to re-enact the crime sequence at the scene, authorities reported that Singh attempted to escape by snatching a policeman's pistol and opening fire. Police returned fire in self-defense, wounding the suspect in the leg. He was shifted to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, where he remains under medical care while in a two-day police custody remand.
