A 23-year-old man has been arrested for the sexual assault and murder of a senior bureaucrat’s daughter at her residence in South Delhi. The suspect, a former domestic worker for the family, was apprehended in a hotel in Dwarka within 12 hours of the crime, which police believe was motivated by robbery. The victim, a 22-year-old woman, was alone at her Amar Colony home on Wednesday morning while her parents were away for their daily exercise. According to the police, the suspect entered the house using a spare key that the family habitually left outside for their current domestic help.
Authorities stated that the suspect attacked the victim while she was studying. He reportedly bludgeoned her with a heavy object after demanding the passcode to the family’s safe. He then strangled her using a mobile phone charging cable. The suspect fled the scene with approximately ₹2.5 lakh in cash and several valuables. The crime was discovered around 8:00 AM when the woman’s parents returned from the gym to find their daughter in a pool of blood. She was rushed to Fortis Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Joint Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar confirmed that the suspect has been booked for rape, murder, and robbery. Police also noted that the suspect’s background had not been officially verified when he was hired a year ago. He reportedly had a history of gambling addiction and misappropriating household funds. The Delhi Police have formed multiple teams to ensure a "watertight case" against the accused. He is expected to be produced in court on Thursday as investigators seek police remand to recover the looted items and further probe the motive.
