Motorists and commuters across the capital are advised to plan their journeys ahead of time as extensive traffic restrictions and diversions are put in place on August 13. The measures are implemented for the full-dress rehearsal of the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.

Key Road Closures and Timings

Roads surrounding the Red Fort will remain entirely closed to general traffic from 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM on August 13.   • Chandni Chowk Road (from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort)
  • Nishad Raj Marg (from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg)

Commercial Vehicle and Bus Restrictions

Heavy curbs have been laid out for commercial traffic, goods carriers, and public buses:

  • Goods Vehicles: Movement will be restricted between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from midnight on August 12 until 11:00 AM on August 13.
  • Interstate Buses: Prohibited between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT during the same window.
  • City and DTC Buses: Local buses will bypass Ring Road between ISBT Kashmere Gate and the Nizamuddin Khatta "T" point. Buses terminating at Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Main Railway Station will be curtailed at alternative hubs such as Mori Gate, Tis Hazari, and the Ramlila Ground. Normal bus services are scheduled to resume after 11:00 AM.

Recommended Alternative Routes

To bypass restricted zones, the traffic police have recommended specific alternative corridors:

  • North-South Movement: Utilise Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, Rani Jhansi Road, or cross the Yamuna via Nizamuddin Bridge and Pushta Road.
  • East-West Movement: Take NH-24/NH-9, Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapulla Road, or utilise DDU Marg, Minto Road, and Vikas Marg before connecting through Connaught Place or Ajmeri Gate.

Travel to Railway Stations and Hospitals

  • Old Delhi Railway Station: Commuters coming from the west and south can use Mother Teresa Crescent, Rani Jhansi Flyover, Azad Market, and S P Mukherjee Marg. From the east, use Pushta Road and Yudhister Setu.
  • New Delhi Railway Station: Accessible via Vikas Marg and DDU Marg from the east, or Panchkuian Road and Chelmsford Road from the west and south.
