A 23-year-old man, Uday Kumar, was arrested after allegedly attacking and killing his stepfather Sridhar during a family dispute in Shivapura, Bengaluru. Police said Sridhar, who was allegedly drunk, picked up scissors and attempted to attack Uday’s mother, Deena. Uday allegedly struck him three times with a motorcycle shock absorber. Sridhar later died in hospital.

Police said Sridhar, who worked as a journalist, had a drinking habit and would frequently create a ruckus at home after consuming alcohol, NDTV reported. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday night when Sridhar allegedly picked up a pair of scissors and attempted to attack Deena, Uday's mother. Uday intervened during the confrontation and allegedly struck Sridhar three times with a motorcycle shock absorber. Sridhar sustained serious injuries in the assault and was rushed to BGS Hospital for treatment. However, he died while undergoing treatment, police said.
Sridhar had married Deena around 22 years ago after she separated from her first husband. Uday, Deena's son from her first marriage, lived with the couple along with Sridhar's two children, Darshan and Kanchana. Police have taken Uday into custody and are questioning him in connection with Sridhar's death. Sridhar's body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case, conducted a spot inspection and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
