Delhi Police have dismantled an illegal factory involved in the production of counterfeit Sensodyne toothpaste operating in the Khanjawala area of North West Delhi. During the raid conducted on Thursday, authorities arrested the unit's owner, identified as 58-year-old Hariom Mishra, a resident of Rohini. The operation led to the seizure of thousands of counterfeit items and raw materials valued at several lakh rupees.

The crackdown comes amid rising concerns over the circulation of fake personal care products in the Indian market. Acting on a specific tip-off, a police team raided a godown in Mahaveer Vihar, where they discovered an unhygienic manufacturing setup. Seizure of Counterfeit Goods and Raw Materials

During the raid, police observed six labourers filling locally prepared paste into tubes bearing the branding of the reputed sensitive toothpaste brand. The search resulted in the recovery of approximately 1,800 filled tubes, 10,000 empty tubes, and 1,200 fully packed units ready for distribution.

Additionally, officers seized 130 kilograms of a suspicious blue-coloured paste stored in large drums. The inventory of confiscated equipment included heating guns, industrial glue, adhesive tapes with brand logos, and various packaging machines. Mishra reportedly operated the unit from a rented premises without any valid trade licences, bills, or brand authorisations.

Health Risks and Distribution Network Investigation

A senior police officer noted that the manufacturing conditions were extremely unsanitary, further escalating the potential danger to public health. The "suspicious" chemical composition of the seized paste is currently being analysed. Authorities are now investigating the wider distribution network to determine if any of the substandard batches have already reached retail shelves in Delhi or other parts of the country.

Sensodyne, a popular brand for sensitive teeth, has become a frequent target for counterfeiters due to its high market demand and premium pricing. Investigators are working to trace the source of the empty tubes and professional-grade packaging material, which allowed the fake products to closely mimic genuine retail units.
